Small is beautiful

Waitrose has just announced it is launching its first small convenience store format this summer (2,000 – 4,000 sq ft with 850 product ranges). Hope there is one coming near me. Interesting to see how ‘small format’ is an aggressive push from them at the moment, whether it be in busy town centres or on the forecourt. They’re also not alone, many brands are cashing in on this as a strategy. Whether you have a premium lifestyle offer like Waitrose or a regular convenience offer like 7-Eleven, everyone is hungry to get out to those untapped audiences not yet with access to their brand and to generate new revenues. Food-to-go is pivotal to both and the ability to serve the needs of busy consumers looking to buy a coffee and a sandwich, a ready meal for the evening and a basis household supply – all the essentials for the next 24 hours.
